Walking in the door from walking the dog, I smell this beautiful aroma coming from the kitchen. Cardamom, oranges, cinnamon, and brown sugar filled the air as if it were a slow burning candle, but if you peaked into the oven you will find a glazed ham dripping with juices waiting to be eaten. Use a pre-sliced spiral ham if you prefer.
Ingredients
8-12 pound ham
3 T Mustard
1 T Cinnamon
1 t Cardamom
1/8 t Ground cloves
1/8 t nutmeg
1 T Garlic Powder
1/2 Cup of pure Maple Syrup
1/3 Cup Light Brown Sugar
1/2 stick of sweet cream butter - Unsalted
1 to 1 1/2 Cups Orange Juice
2 Oranges thickly sliced
Toothpicks
Directions
* Pre-Heat oven to 350
* Rinse the ham and pat dry
* Place ham in an oven safe baking dish
* Make a few slices on the ham.
* Coat the ham with mustard
* Combine cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, ground cloves, garlic powder, and pepper.
- Set Aside
* Place the oranges on the ham with the toothpicks, arrange according to your desire
* Add the orange juice to the baking dish
* In a small pot melt the half of stick of butter, stir in brown sugar and maple syrup slowly add the orange juice.
* Once combined a nice rich color has formed coast the ham entirely.
* Bake on 350 according to weight.
* Ensure the inside of the ham reaches 160 degrees
* Pour juices over the ham every 20 to 30 minutes.
* Let rest before serving
* Before slicing ham, once again poor juices over the meat and serve
