Sugar Cookies


A professional tip I received a few years ago about sugar cookies was to make sure the dough was chilled well before rolling and then again before baking. your choice, let me know what you decide.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups butter, softened

  • 2 cups white sugar

  • 4 eggs

  • 1 T vanilla extract

  • 1 t almond extract

  • 1 t Cream of Tartar

  • 5 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

  • In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla and almond extracts. Stir in the flour, baking powder, cream of tartar and salt. Form into 2 balls and cover, and chill dough for at least one hour.

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies on ungreased cookie sheets.

  • Bake 7 to 10 minutes in preheated oven.

  • Cool Completely before icing.

  • Enjoy!
